Neighborhood Development
The Neighborhood Development Work Group serves as the point of contact to welcome and orient new neighborhoods and champions when they make inquiries about becoming part of SWP. The Neighborhood WG will provide support and services to the Neighborhood Champions in helping households get prepared and developing a culture of neighborhood cooperation.
Specific activities include but are not limited to the following:
Develop and maintain a succinct roadmap to neighborhood preparedness
Train a cadre of people to assist champions in conducting the Map Your Neighborhood (or equivalent) programs
Develop and maintain alternative approaches to MYN suited to the various rural types of neighborhoods found on the Island
Provide materials to support Neighborhood Cohesiveness and preparedness for inclusion on the SWP website
Provide personnel assistance to neighborhoods such as:
One-on-one assistance to Champions in helping them understand the options for neighborhood preparedness and selecting the best approach for their neighborhood
Provide trained resources to assist neighborhoods in conducting MYN exercises
Make presentations to neighborhoods describing the need for preparedness and an overview of the process
Develop table top and exercise scenarios that neighborhoods can utilize to support assessing their readiness
Respond to questions related to Prepared Neighborhood Development
Provide assistance to champions in developing relationships with adjacent neighborhoods
