Radio Registry
By Ken Wolfe
Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) radios are great tools for communicating around a neighborhood. They also allow longer distance communication such as between nearby neighborhoods or between a neighborhood and a ham radio operator who can relay information to and from the county Emergency Operations Centers.
South Whidbey Prepares is developing links between different neighborhoods and between neighborhoods and hams and thus creating a broad network covering South Whidbey. It is necessary to know the locations of folks with radios that would like to be part of the network. To that end, we have created a Radio Registry where you can list your radio type and street address. SWP can use this information to connect neighborhoods and, hopefully, improve general communication across the area.
FYI: The information in the registry will only be used by SWP and won’t be made public or shown on the SWP website.
We encourage everyone with a radio to sign up in the registry and to notify neighbors who may not see this notice to do the same. The more radios we can list, the better. If you have any questions, contact South Whidbey Prepares.
