A disaster almost always means a power outage as well. How will you power the essentials when lights go out?

Basic preparations

Analyze your household energy needs. What really is essential? What can you do without for 30 days? Remember to consider time of year….winter calls for heating, summer may need fans for cooling.

Make sure you have the following supplies:

  • Chargers for all devices

  • Outdoor grill, camp stove, or Rocket Stove (outside use only)

  • Solar- and/or battery-powered lanterns

  • Solar power bank

Learn how to turn off your utilities in an emergency.

If you are on a well system, install a generator for your well so you can pump water during a long power outage.

Consider investing in a battery backup or a generator and fuel.

Advanced preparations

Consider installing solar panels and battery backup at your home.

Store the following supplies:

  • A solar-charged portable power bank with portable solar panels (see below for guidance).

  • A power inverter to convert the DC charge from solar panels or vehicle batteries to AC
